LAND ROVER 101' IN EXCEPTIONAL CONDITION

This superb example of a 101”GS was manufactured on 6th January 1976 and given the registration 63FL62 at the MOD vehicle depot Ashchurch on 13th January 1976. Some markings of the Royal Marines have previously been found under the paint, however the MOD have never released any information to the army museum at Beverley and it’s history record remains classified. It was stood down from active service in 1992 and purchased via MOD auction in 1998 by the previous owner to myself. Unfortunately the previous long term owner passed away and it was placed into storage for a couple of years. When it was taken out of storage just over a year ago I had Daryll Burdfield (ex long term Dunsfold Collection mechanic) go right through it. Daryll knows these vehicles inside out and has looked after my other 101” for many years. He said it’s one of the best he’s seen in a long time. It has also previously won several awards at military shows around the UK.

Items renewed – Fuel Pump, front hub seals, brake linings, wheel cylinders, exhaust system, coolant pipes, auxiliary belts, carb diaphragms, track rod ends, steering rod, suspension bushes, plugs, fluids and filters. I’ve also fitted new genuine NOS seats and wheel steps, along with a correct black brass buckle hood from MOD suppliers Undercover Covers. Since the photo was taken a new set of Michelin XL tyres have been fitted. I’m a real stickler for originality and have made sure every detail is correct. The chassis is superb, retaining all of it’s original factory underseal and showing no signs of corrosion at all. For whatever reason, this 101 absolutely flies along, and having driven several 101’s over the years it’s by far the most powerful I’ve driven. I’ve not been able to confirm this yet, but an ex serviceman who knows 101’s well, told me that the only 101’s he knew of with a classified history were tasked with guarding nuclear weapons movements. These vehicles were supposedly fitted with higher output engines. This really is an outstanding example that needs nothing…
