This vehicle has to be one of the highest spec defender camper conversions in the UK. No expense has been spared to create the ultimate off grid camping machine.

First, the vehicle itself. It is a 2008 110 XS Defender (heated front seats, AC, electric front windows) with 133k miles on the clock. Chassis has been wax oiled annually and in good condition. Bodywork is on the whole excellent, with a few small bubbles of rust here and there that have yet to break the paintwork. Standard stuff for a 15 year old Defender. There are two front seats and two rear – near side rear seat was removed to make way for the fridge. Vehicle drives well with absolutely no issues had a full service and MOT in July with Land Rover specialist. Only issue is the FM radio doesn’t work as I had to cut the aerial out during the roof conversion and never got around to fixing a new one. This can easily be fixed however, or you can do as I do and use your phone and the Bluetooth stereo.
She is sitting on 4x Twisted alloys plus a spare, all with BF Goodrich All Terrain tyres – that’s £2k worth of wheel and tyre right there. It also has a Twisted gearbox guard. On the rear, I switched out the standard spare wheel carrier that tends to break the door hinges after a while and replaced it with a ORE steel wheel carrier (£1k) that attaches to the bulkhead. This means you can use the rear wheel as a step to get up to the Frontrunner roof rack.
The roof rack has a 100watt solar panel and Roadshower, which holds about 28 litres of pressurised water that warms in the sun. It also has a Frontrunner bracket for holding a cast iron cooking pot and securing point for a retractable ladder.
Electrics are all Victron (the gold standard) from charge controller to 800VA inverter and and 100aH lithium battery. This links to a bunch of interior LED’s, 2x 240v sockets, water pump and fridge.
The fridge is accessed through the near side passenger door (why would you want the fridge access inside the vehicle?!) and kitchen and storage via two pull out drawers at the rear. Two gas rings, sink. There’s a 20 litre gas tank and 30 (I think) litre fresh water tank on board.
The interior cabinetry was all custom designed and built to exacting standards. Top quality joinery and materials mean it’s but to last and looks exceptional. There is bench seating for four which accommodates a table that can also be used to make widthways sleeping space for up to two children.
All of the above above modifications cost in excess of £15k, but by far the biggest single expense was the Alu-Cab rooftop conversion and shadow awning. Alu-Cab make the best roofs for adventure vehicles, no question. High quality materials, comfort and safety. This conversion was done by Nene Overland and cost around £15k. The entire roof pops up to create standing space in the rear of the vehicle or a drop down double bed that has, at times, slept my entire family of four! On the outside is the 270° shadow awning that wraps right around the side and rear of rear of the vehicle.
As you can probably tell, there’s really been no stone left unturned in the building of this vehicle. A real head turner and one we will miss when she goes…
