The land Rover 101 Forward control was primarily built for the military for towing a gun and its ammo…a tonne of the stuff which is why the 101 is sometimes also known as the Land Rover 1 ton.
Development started in ’67 but production wasn’t until ’72 and ran through to ’78. All powered with the Land Rover V8 and built as soft tops at first for their sole purpose as a gun tractor.
In later years many were rebuilt with hard tops for use as ambulances and radio field wagons.
Come the late 90’s most had been decommissioned and sold off and now form part of private collections or the pride and joy of enthusiasts up and down the country. They have now gained quite a following and have been converted to a whole host of civvy street uses by their new passionate owners…..campers and overland support vehicles etc are a couple of popular conversions.
The 101FC name came from the 101″ wheel base and the fact the driving position was above and slightly forward of the front wheels.

A running average condition one is sort of £10K-£20K while really clean things are £35K and upwards
